Museum für Luftfahrt und Technik

The aerospace and Technology Museum Wernigerode shows restored aircraft and helicopters in two halls covering an area of ​​about 5000 square meters. Issued parts, tools and equipment are also including ejection seats, cockpit and navigation instruments, pilot equipment, engines and flight models from different countries. The exhibition deals with aviation since 1945. Entry for art also includes restored cars and a dive tank. In addition to large-scale exhibits illustrate sectional models and functional explanations flying. A total of around 1,000 exhibits are presented.

History

The museum was opened in the summer of 1999, initially with three large exhibits. Since then it has been constantly expanding. Began in 1998 and 16 ABM forces to restore the former factory building to the public. Clemens Aulich, landlord, owner and director of the exhibition was commissioned in 1992 with the reorganization and privatization of the former Elmo factory premises and discovered the hall for the museum. Meanwhile, a second hall is part of the exhibition.

Type of presentation

Visitors can view the partially also walk exhibits from the immediate vicinity. The individual exhibits to find tables with key data. Partly also declarations, who flew with the machines. You can see for example the jet, flew with the Prince Charles or a helicopter, which traveled the English royal family. Audio Guides for adults (since May 2012) and a special version for children (since January 2013) can be rented for a fee. On request, be made tours for groups up to 25 people. A special feature is that visitors can also take a look at the restoration workshop. In the halls there is gastronomy.

Exhibits

Exhibits include airplanes and helicopters from the civilian areas of air rescue, passenger and agricultural aviation as well as civil and military aircraft. One focus is on three copies of the Starfighters. Newest exhibit is a Mirage III RS in the Swiss army. In addition, various components of aircraft and equipment of pilots are shown. Stand and cut models of various aircraft complete the collection.

In the automotive sector, among other cars from Rolls Royce and Jaguar are seen. In addition, in the basement of the complete and restored old telephone system from Wernigerode to 1928 is shown.
