Museum of Bags and Purses

The Tassenmuseum and Purses (English: Museum of Bags and Purses, German: Museum of Bags and Purses ) in the center of Amsterdam is considered (even in his own words ) as the largest museum in the world with more than 4000, among others, hand and shoulder bags, suitcase and wallets. The museum traces the 500-year history of the various pockets, their great diversities, materials and appearance as well as the social and societal developments.

History

The cup museum came from a private collection of Hendrijke Ivo who collected 35 years pockets, including school bags, suitcase, hand and shoulder bags. My interest began with a leather bag of 1820. Amstelveen In 1996 she opened her apartment in the first public exhibition. After ten years were no longer sufficient because of the increasing number of bags and also the visitors the premises. The history of the building in the Herengracht, where the museum is housed, began in 1664 when Pieter de Graeff the contract was awarded by the house ( Pand ) to build. The last resident, Maria van Eik, had purchased the house in 1893 for 44,000 guilders. She lived there until her death in 1906. 1907 the building was sold to the " Hollandse Brabd Societeit " and had to 2007 various owners and tenants. 2013 consisted of Amsterdam's Canal Belt ( Canal Ring ), to which also the Herengracht counts 400 years. Interesting are also the original painted ceilings in two rooms from the 17th and 18th centuries. Twice a year, the museum organizes a special exhibition. The collections are divided into centuries, 1500-1700, 1700-1800, 1800-1900 and the years 1900-1950, 1950-2000 and from 2000.

The museum is privately owned and is funded by donations and admission fees. There is a museum café, a museum shop with books, cards and bags by Dutch and international designers. A garden ( Grachtentuin ) part of the museum that can be used by visitors. For festive occasions, such as birthdays, marriages, Mother's Day or fashion shows, rooms can be rented up to 50 people. There are also five different workshops where interested parties can make bags yourself. For children between eight and twelve and for school groups various activities are ground. There are some house rules: Smoking is not permitted in the Museum, and photographs in the exhibition rooms and calling with cellphone. For wheelchair users, there is an elevator.

2011 got the Tassenmuseum the Time Out Award for "Best Specialty Museum van Amsterdam ".

In 2012 there was the " record number " ( Recordaantal ) of 82,760 visitors.

The Tassenmuseum Hendrijke lies behind the Rembrandtplein and is the main train station with the Amsterdam tram lines ( Tramlijn, tram ) No 9 (stop Rembrandtplein ), No. 4, 16, 24 and 25 to achieve (as of January 2013).
