Lord of the Rings (also Music Inspired by Lord of the Rings ) is the first solo album by Bo Hansson and a concept album about JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. It appeared in 1970 with the Swedish title Sagan om wrestle with Silence Records in 1972 with an English title at Charisma Records.

Creation and publication

After Bo Hansson had ended the collaboration with Jan Karlsson, he was encouraged by Anders Lind, who had already worked with Hansson & Karlsson, a concept album about Tolkien's fantasy novel. It was recorded in a rented Lind and Hansson Summer House in Stockholm and the Stockholm Studio Decibel and in the fall of 1970 as Sagan om wrestle in Sweden published in the international version with English title appeared two years later. To date, always followed new editions, some with different artwork or with excerpts from the two subsequent albums Magician's Hat and Attic Thoughts as a bonus track.

Style

Lord of the Rings is a purely instrumental and almost minimalist facility arranged album. It is with his concept of the instrumentation and dreamy to melancholy mood is usually associated with the progressive rock but also has echoes of the Canterbury sound and psychedelic rock on.

Reception

Sagan om wrestle received airplay in Sweden and became a successful album for Hansson. The English dubbed version could build on the success and is regarded by many as Hansson's most successful work. The music magazine eclipsed took Lord of the Rings on their list of the 150 most important prog albums. However, the press reacted to this day in parts also hostile to the album. On the Baby Blue Pages, although the atmosphere of the music is praised but also criticized for its simplicity and monotony.
