The music publisher Ernst Eulenburg was founded on 1 February 1874 by the German music publisher Ernst Eulenburg ( 1847-1926 ) in Leipzig.

History

First, Ernst Eulenburg moved teaching materials and choral works. In 1892 he took over the series Payne's small score edition (chamber music) the publisher AH Payne (Leipzig) and 1894 Donajowski 's Miniature Scores of the publisher E. Donajowski ( London). Thus, the foundation was laid for the score range for orchestral and chamber music: The published since 1894 series Eulenburg 's small score edition became famous among students, musicians and music lovers. 1905 joined the newly doctorate son of the publisher, Kurt Eulenburg ( 1879-1982 ), as a publisher in the publishing and took over in 1911 as Publishing Director. He caused a rapid expansion of the program. After the death of his father in 1926 was Kurt sole owner of the publishing house. In 1939 he founded the British branch Ernst Eulenburg Ltd.. in London. A short time later the Leipzig publishing house was expropriated by the Nazis on the basis of the Regulation on the use of Jewish property on 3 December 1938. Kurt Eulenburg went into exile in Switzerland and directed from there on September 23, 1939 an application to the District Court of Leipzig on " deletion of the company". The Leipzig publishing house was sold in 1940 to the final booksellers Horst Sander and traded until the late 50s under the name Horst Sander KG. Kurt Eulenburg settled after the war with his family to London. It originated offices in Zurich (1947 ) and Stuttgart ( 1950). In 1954 came Eulenburg back into the possession of his confiscated Leipzig catalog. In 1957, the publishing house of Schott Music Ltd.. ( London) taken. Kurt Eulenburg pocket score remained responsible for the series until his retirement in 1968.

Publishing program

The publishing program of the Edition Eulenburg represented today with over 1,200 titles, the world's largest score range. The repertoire includes orchestral and choral works as well as chamber music and musical theater from the Baroque to contemporary. The Edition Eulenburg now published five series:
