Mussoorie (Hindi: मसूरी, Mussoorie, English: Mussoorie ) is a small town of 26,075 (2001) inhabitants in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is located 278 km north of Delhi and 34 km from Dehradun, the capital of the state, at an altitude of about 2000 m and stretches about 15 km above a craggy ridge.

Mussoorie was established in 1832 by the British adventurer Captain Young as hill station and is now a popular destination for Indians of the middle class, who want to escape the heat of the plains. It offers tourists a promenade ( The Mall ), a cableway, with which you can drive to the nearby center at Gun Hill, as well as numerous entertainment stalls and souvenir shops. But the main attraction is the view of the forests and peaks of the central Himalayas. In and around Mussoorie by Western missionaries many schools have been established to boarding. The Landour Language School offers Hindi courses that primarily attract Westerners.

Mussoorie is the birthplace of the famous mystery writer Patricia Wentworth (1878-1961) and pianist Geoffrey Tozer of Australia ( 1954-2009 ).
