Muzaffer Özdemir

Muzaffer Özdemir ( born 1957 ) is a Turkish actor.

Biography

Muzaffer Özdemir celebrated his acting debut in 1999 with the same name starring in Nuri Bilge Ceylan's film distress in May. The drama tells the story of young Muzaffer, who returns to his hometown to Anatolia in order to realize a film project with his family members. There, the filmmaker is confronted with the problems of parents and relatives: his cousin dreamed of a future in Istanbul, while Muzaffers father threatens to lose a piece of wood on the land registry office. The strongly autobiographical movie (father and mother are played by the parents of the director ) was praised by the daily newspaper because of its almost Buddhist calm and unusual cutting techniques, while the New York Times compared it with the work of Abbas Kiarostami. Distress in May won a number of international film and festival awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the award ceremony of the European Film Awards 2000 and the awards from the Film Festival of Angers, Ankara, Antalya, Istanbul and Bergamo.
