  • Hellespont Pride

The Braer was an oil tanker, which due to an engine failure in the storm drove in January 1993 off the coast of Shetland aground and leak suggested. In stormy weather, a recovery was not possible, so that the entire crude oil, which resulted in the tanker, arrived in the North Sea. The Braer was fully loaded at the time of the accident with oil from the Norwegian Gullfaks field. These were approximately double the amount that lost the Exxon Valdez at their misfortune. Nevertheless, the consequences of the Braer disaster - for various reasons were far less dramatic.

The maritime court hearing revealed as the reason for the shipwreck that the fuel of the ship was contaminated with seawater.
