MV Brigitte Bardot

  • Gojira
  • Ocean 7 Adventurer

The Brigitte Bardot is a trimaran of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Ship

The trimaran was the name Gojira (after the famous Japanese movie monster, known in the West as Godzilla ) and Ocean 7 Adventurer and is 35 meters long. It was designed by Nigel Irens and is powered by two diesel engines. The stabilized monohull trimaran is up to 24 knots.

History

As an expedition ship, the trimaran managed by his previous owner in 1998 a trip around the world in 74 days, breaking the hitherto existing record of 84 days from the 1960s, which was drawn up by the USS Triton, a U.S. nuclear submarine. The ship was put to the use of Sea Shepherd as a charter ship from South Africa.

In 2008, the ship was given a coat of paint, designed by Media Rat Race Adventure. It was " leading man " in a TV series of the South African TV channel kykNET, X Aqua. The series was launched in October 2008 and ran until January 2009.

In May 2011 the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society informed of the rights holders of the Gojira / Godzilla franchise, the Japanese film studio Toho, through the unauthorized use of the brand name " Godzilla ". The company subsequently changed the name of the ship Brigitte Bardot.

Missions for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

In a pursuit of the Japanese whaling ship Nisshin Maru late 2011, the Brigitte Bardot 2300 km south-west of Australia was captured and damaged by a giant wave. The Steve Irwin from the tracker fleet rushed to help and escorted the ship into the port of Fremantle. The Brigitte Bardot was seen among others in the documentary series Whale Wars.
