My Best Friend Is You

My Best Friend Is You is the second album of the singer Kate Nash. It was released on 19 April 2010 in the UK, in other countries a day later. Originally title Crayon Full of Colour should read, but was rejected because of similar looking titles around the time of publication. On 13 April 2010 Nash was a guest on the show Xposure radio station XFM DJ John Kennedy, in which she gave an interview in which it was played and discussed each song of the album.

Background

The claim of Nash was not to include second Made of Bricks. She wanted to explore new musical paths, the album should sound rough and Nash wanted to try new things such as spoken-word passages, large part in the implementation of their ideas had co-producer and sound engineer Bernard Butler. When songwriting was inspired by the girl groups of the 1960s and the 1990s punk band, the album title My Best Friend Is You ( German: 're My Best Friend You ) refers to their grandparents, who have been married for 57 years.

The artwork of the album comes from the artist herself She was influenced by Bauhaus art, however, the decisive factor for the design of the front cover gave a graphics artist who only abbildeten body parts, but no faces. This is intended to express that is obtained as a woman in society, too little attention. This feminist basic theme is also found again in the lyrics of the album. The most unusual piece is Mansion song that Nash wants to deliberately shock. The lyrics of the song is interspersed with foul language and are of groupies who get treated by their stars like dirt. In the single from Do- Wah -Doo is about to be left for another.

Reception

John Bush of Allmusic noted that Kate Nash on the album presenting quite different than on the predecessor published in 2007. The first half of the album offer very professionally produced pop-soul, as he is called for in the 21st century, while the second half, amazingly, better fit to the songwriting of the artist. The situation is similar Jakob Rondthaler of laut.de, the pieces like Kiss That Grrrl or Do- Wah -Doo referred to as " predictable " as he called Title I Just Love You More as "experimental". He says that the disk is not homogeneous, and while listening to the piece could certainly be exhausting, but that it is a " great album ". Johnny Sharp of BBC Music, however, is less enthusiastic. Although the pleasing melodic I've Got a Secret, the sweet Do not You Want to Share the Guilt or punky I Just Love You More were quite original, but the album as a whole, a disappointment.
