Spoken Word
Spoken Word (English: spoken word ) refers to a genre of performing arts, in which a lyrical text or a narrative is presented to an audience. Although a spoken-word performance may also be accompanied musically, the spoken word is a priority.
In the development of the Spoken Word poets of the Beat Generation, such as William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg were important pioneers; in the 1980s and 1990s, the genre was taken up increasingly by younger writers and poets and connected to different currents of popular music. The currently most popular by far lecture form of the spoken word can be found in the Poetry Slam.
