Myllykoski Corporation

Myllykoski Oyj was until 2011 a Finnish family-owned and paper manufacturer with headquarters in Helsinki. It was in 2010 the world's third largest producer of SC papers and was one of the six leading producers of coated groundwood papers.

History

The company was founded in 1892 in Finland.

On 21 December 2010 the company announced the signing of the contract for the sale of Myllykoski and Rhein Papier to UPM. The European Commission approved the acquisition on 13 July 2011 without conditions.

On 31 August 2011, UPM announced the closure of the plants Albbruck and Kouvola and the closure of the paper machine 3 in Ettringen.

The company produced at the time of acquisition by UPM in seven paper mills with a total production capacity of three million tons of paper per year uncoated and coated publication papers, including newsprint.

By June 2009, also included the paper Utzenstorf to Myllykoski Corporation.

  • Paper Albbruck GmbH: 3 paper machines with 320,000 tons of annual capacity for coated LWC / MWC printing papers on the role and painted, wood-containing format offset papers
  • MD Papier GmbH ( Plattling ): 2 paper machines for coated rotogravure papers on roll
  • Rhein Papier GmbH establishment Plattling: 1 paper machine with an annual capacity of 380,000 tons of uncoated SC papers
  • Rhein Papier GmbH ( Knapsack, Hürth ): 1 paper machine with 310,000 tons of annual capacity for newsprint
  • Brothers Lang GmbH paper mill ( Ettringen ): 3 paper machine with an annual capacity of 600,000 tons of newsprint

Finland

  • Myllykoski Paper Oy ( Anjalankoski ): 3 paper machines with 570,000 tons of annual capacity for SC and MWC paper for web offset and gravure printing

USA

  • Madison Paper Industries (Madison, Maine): 1 paper machine with an annual capacity of 220,000 tons of uncoated SC papers for gravure printing
