Myung Rye-hyun

Myung Rye -hyun (born 14 April 1926) is a former North Korean football player and coach.

At 17, Myung was already in the squad 's first team Maronbong, the strongest and most traditional club of North Korea. As a 22 -year-old striker was in the 1948 levy of the total Korean Olympic team.

After he suffered a serious leg injury in the Korean War, Myung moved to the dugout. After studying in Moscow, Prague, Budapest and East Berlin, he was coach of the 1960 North Korean national team. Under his leadership, he prepared his team for 18 months intensively for the Football World Cup 1966 in front, the entire squad then consisted of players who were members of the military. With this team Myung managed one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history when his team beat Italy in the first round 1-0 and thus could reach the quarter-finals. There was defeated North Korea 3:5 Portugal after they had already led 3-0 after 22 minutes.
