Nacio Herb Brown

Ignacio " Nacio " Herb Brown ( born February 22, 1896 in Deming, New Mexico, † September 28, 1964 in San Francisco, California ) was an American songwriter and composer of musicals and film scores. His music to Singin 'in the Rain has become a trademark of the American Hollywood movie musicals.

Life and work

Brown moved in infancy with his family to Los Angeles where he attended Manual Arts High School. After school, he worked full time as a seller or real estate agent, however, has already composed his own pieces. In the early 1920s he celebrated with his songs Coral Sea and When Buddha Smiles initial success. In 1927, he joined the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in 1928 and received at the beginning of the sound era at MGM in Hollywood a job as a composer, so now made his musical passion into a career. At MGM, he frequently worked with the lyricist Arthur Freed, one of them with the known film musical Singin 'in the Rain. Brown retired in 1950 and died in 1964 in San Francisco. In 1970, he was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters included Hall of Fame.
