Nagao Tamekage

Nagao Tamekage (Japanese长尾 为 景; † 1540-1543 ) was a Japanese feudal lord of the Sengoku period ( Sengoku daimyo ).

Life

After the death of his father Nagao Yoshikage he followed this in 1506 or 1507 as deputy military governor ( shugodai ) to the province of Echigo. 1507 crashed and he killed his feudal lords, the military governor ( shugo ) Uesugi Fusayoshi and supported the establishment of its distant cousin Uesugi Sadazane. 1509 battle was fought with Uesugi Akisada Fusayoshis brother, the Governor-General of Kanto ( Kanto Kanrei ), the Tamekage initially lost. The following year, he struck Akisada devastating, which he consolidated his position as lord of Echigo. The reigning Muromachi shogunate recognized him formally as a Shugo daimyo equal to, although he remained shugodai. The imperial court awarded him the ceremonial court rank as governor of the province of Shinano ( Shinano no kami ).

1530 rebelled Sadazanes brother Jojo Sadanori unsuccessfully against him. In 1535 he retired from politics and appointed his eldest son Nagao Harukage as his successor. His second son was Nagao Kagetora, who later became famous under the name of Uesugi Kenshin.
