Nagorno-Karabakh independence referendum, 1991
A referendum on independence (Russian Референдум о независимости Нагорно - Карабахской Республики ) was held on December 10 of 1991 in the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh within the Azerbaijan SSR.
Independence was approved by 99.89 % of voters. It was boycotted by the small Azerbaijani minority population in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which constituted almost 20 percent of the total population in the former Autonomous Oblast of Nagorno-Karabakh.
