NAMRIGHTS

NAMRIGHTS (until 31 December 2010: National Society for Human Rights ( NSHR ) to German National Society for Human Rights ( NGfM ) ) is a non-governmental organization ( NGO) and for the observance of universal human rights and their protection in Namibia used worldwide. Its work is based the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as a number of other human rights documents.

NAMRIGHTS is ( Namibian rights and responsibilities ) for " Namibian Rights and Responsibilities ".

The organization

The headquarters of NAMRIGHTS located in Windhoek, Namibia. In addition, there are six regional offices in Oshakati, Rundu, Opuwo, Katima Mulilo, Mariental and Eenhana

Due to the low importance of the political opposition in Namibia, is a small number of civil society actors to a major role. The NAMRIGHTS heard while the most conspicuous actors in the political landscape of Namibia. Criticism of government negligence, the practices of the SWAPO government officials and politicians, and other policy issues are addressed by the organization.

In November 2006, the organization filed a lawsuit before the International Criminal Court, among others, against former President Sam Nujoma. According NAMRIGHTS reason for the action is the refusal Nujoma's position on the fate of zrika to take 4200 disappeared both during the liberation struggle, even during the term of office Nujoma (including as part of the Caprivi conflict) persons, and of the refusal by the government, human rights violations to be examined at the time of the liberation struggle in Namibia by the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Nujoma is protected by the Constitution as a former president from prosecution in Namibia, which he may be held legally not as a result of immunity.

Objectives of NAMRIGHTS are:
