Nanni di Baccio Bigio

Nanni di Baccio Bigio, actually Giovanni Lippi (* 1511 ( ) in Florence; ? † 1568 in Rome ) was a Florentine sculptor and architect.

Life

Bigio studied sculpture at Raffaello da Montelupo. Together with the sculptor Lorenzetto he created in Rome the statue of Pope Clement VII for the choir of the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva and a Pietà for the church of Santa Maria dell'Anima and a second Pietà for the church of Santo Spirito in Florence.

He worked under Antonio da Sangallo the construction of St. Peter's Basilica and later built as an architect in various places palaces and private houses.

Bigio was a contemporary of Michelangelo; He was known for his polemical remarks about Michelangelo and his work.
