Narathiwat ( Thai: นราธิวาส ) is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง นราธิวาส ) in the Thai province of Narathiwat. It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Narathiwat and Narathiwat province.

Geography

The Narathiwat province is located in the southern region of Thailand, on the border with Malaysia, surrounded by mountains of the expiring Tenasserim Mountains. The distance to the capital Bangkok is 1149 km. To the border of Malaysia, there are only 35 kilometers.

The most important water resource is the Maenam (river) Bang Nara.

The National Park Ao Manao - Khao Tanyong is also in the county.

History
