Nathaniel Makoto Uematsu

Nathaniel Makoto Uematsu (Japaneseナタナエル 植松 誠, Makoto Uematsu Natanaeru; born 1952 ) is an Anglican bishop of Hokkaido since 2006 and Primate of the Nippon Be Ko Kai.

Uematsu studied at the Osaka University of Arts in 1975 and received his Bachelor of Arts. He then attended the Philips University in Enid, Oklahoma, where he received his Master of Arts in 1978 got.

Uematsu attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, where he received his Master of Divinity in 1982. After that, he was from 1982 to 1986 curate of the parish of St Marks Ashiya in Osaka. In 1984, Uematsu was ordained a priest. From 1986 to 1994 he held the office of the rector of Holy Trinity in Osaka and then finally was 1994-1997 General Secretary of the Ecclesiastical Province of administration. In 1997, Uematsu received episcopal consecration and became bishop of the Diocese of Hokkaido. At the 56th General Synod of 2006 he was elected Primate of the Nippon Be Ko Kai, succeeding Jacob Tōru Uno (ヤコブ 宇野 徹).
