Enid Enid or City is a city in Garfield County, Oklahoma, United States, located at the eastern edge of the Great Plains. The city is the county seat of Garfield County.

Geography and population

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city Enid has an area 191.8 km ². Of the 47,045 inhabitants ( 2000 census ), more than three-quarters of whites ( 87%), the remaining nearly 13% are members of different races ( Latinos, African Americans, American Indians and others). The per capita income was $ 2000 17.471 a year.

The city has an airport, the Woodring Regional Airport, located about six miles southeast of downtown. About 20 km south of Enid is the Vance Air Force Base.

History

Enid was founded in 1893 on the occasion of the Cherokee Outlet Land Run (Oklahoma Land Run ), as a pre- Cherokee Awarded strip of land on the border of Oklahoma - Kansas were approved for settlement.

1941, the Vance Air Force Base was established. Today Enid has several high schools and one college, the Northwestern Oklahoma State University. It was up to their bankruptcy in 1998, also the seat of Phillips University.
