Garfield County (Oklahoma)

Garfield County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Enid ( Oklahoma).

Geography

The County is located north-west of the geographic center of Oklahoma and has an area of ​​2745 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Grant County, Noble County, Logan County, Kingfisher County, Major County and Alfalfa County.

History

Garfield County was formed in 1893 as an original county of Cherokee country. The County was settled by white settlers during the fourth official land ownership acquisition (Oklahoma Land Run ) of 16 September 1893 which was opened by a gunshot. More than 100,000 people took to horse, on foot or by horse or ox wagon on the way to shared the colonization areas. Garfield County was named after James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States.
