Woods County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Alva.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Oklahoma, bordered to the north Kansas and has an area of ​​3341 square kilometers, of which nine square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Comanche County ( Kansas), Barber County ( Kansas), Alfalfa County, Major County, Woodward County and Harper County.

History

Woods County was formed in 1893 as an original county of Cherokee country. S was named after Sam Wood, a Canadian businessman and politician. The County ( Oklahoma Land Run ) was settled by white settlers during the fourth official land ownership acquisition of 16 September 1893.
