Johnston County (Oklahoma)

Johnston County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tishomingo.

Geography

The County is located in southern Oklahoma, is about 30 km from Texas and has an area of ​​1705 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Pontotoc County, Coal County, Atoka County, Bryan County, Marshall County, Carter County and Murray County.

History

Johnston County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Chickasaw country. It was named after Douglas H. Johnston, a governor of the Chickasaw.
