Cherokee County (Oklahoma)
The Cherokee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. In the census in 2010, the County had 46 987 inhabitants and a population density of 24.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tahlequah, which was named after an ancient Indian city.
Geography
The County is located in northeastern Oklahoma, is in the east some 25 miles from Arkansas and has an area of 2,011 square kilometers, of which 66 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Cherokee County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Cherokee country. It was named after the North American Indians the Cherokee people, the majority settled in what is now Georgia before their settlement in present-day Oklahoma.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Cherokee County 46 987 people in 16,406 households. The population density was 24.2 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The racial the population was composed of 52.3 percent white, 1.3 percent African American, 34.0 percent Native American, 0.6 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 9.1 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 6.3 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
In the 16,406 households lived statistically 2.67 per person.
24.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 63.5 percent were between 18 and 64 and 12.5 percent were 65 years or older. 51.0 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was $ 33,533. The per capita income was $ 15,850. 22.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
