Origin of the name

According to legend, the name is derived from the word Ta'ligwu the Cherokee, which means something like just two or two are enough. This refers to the two to a meeting of tribal elders, which shortly after the Trail of Tears ( Trail of Tears ), took place. Three tribal elders intended to meet, to specify the location for the capital of the Cherokee. Two came and waited for the others. At dusk, they decided that two were enough.

More likely, however, is the derivation of the name of an ancient city in the eastern city of Cherokee called Great Tellico, the English spelling of the Cherokee word Talikwa whose exact meaning has been lost by James Mooney. This suggests references to the word Tel -i - Quah, which can be regarded as plane.
