Garvin County, Oklahoma
Garvin County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pauls Valley.
Geography
The County is located in south-central Oklahoma and has an area of 2107 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: McClain County, Pontotoc County, Murray County, Carter County, Stephens County and Grady County.
History
Garvin County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Chickasaw country. It was named for Samuel Garvin, a leader of the Chickasaw.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Garvin County 27 210 people in 10,865 households and 7,605 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 84.93 percent White, 2.55 percent African American, 7.36 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.54 percent from other races groups; 3.34 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.40 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 10,865 households, 30.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.4 percent were married couples living together, 10.1 percent were single mothers. 30.0 percent were non-families, 26.9 percent of all households and 14.3 percent of households had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.96.
24.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.1 percent between 18 to 24, 26.0 percent between 25 and 44, 23.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 17.9 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 28,070, and the median income for a family was $ 34,774. Males had a median income of $ 28,033 versus $ 18,940 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,856. 11.4 percent of families and 15.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
