National Dance Company of Korea

The National Korean Dance Ensemble (The National Dance Company of Korea) is the national dance company of South Korea.

History and work

The Korean Dance Ensemble was founded by the director of In Seong -Nam ( 임성남 ) and 12 other dancers in February 1962. Since then, there is a representative dance company in South Korea with the aim based on the traditional Korean dance to create new dances and perform these works. The Company has worked since its inception with known South Korean choreographers, as with the choreographer Bae Chung- hye who has assumed the leadership of the 60 -member ensemble since 2000. By participating in various international festivals, it presents the traditional Korean art in the world. The National Dance Company has a rich repertoire. Soul, Sunflower, the dance production together with the German music ensemble SaltaCello (Peter Schindler ) was shown from October 2006 to April 2007 in a number of sold-out performances in Seoul. It is a unique project of cultural cooperation between Germany and South Korea. This production reinterprets the Korean dance Salpuri. Salpuri is a dance for the purification of the soul literally means " wash off the evil spirits ." In the modern version are the movements shown human desires and longings dar.
