National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai

The National Gallery of Modern Art ( NGMA ) is an art museum in India. The museum was founded in Delhi on 29 March 1954 by the Indian government. 1996 was a by- location in Mumbai and in 2006, another in Bangalore.

Collection

The museum displays sculptures and paintings mainly of Indian art creators. The spectrum ranges from the traditional miniature painting (from the 16th century) to contemporary Indian art. More than 14,000 works of Indian artists such as Thomas Daniell, Prafulla Dahanukar, Raja Ravi Varma, Abanindranath Tagore, Rabindranath Tagore, Gaganendranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, Amrita Sher- Gil, Dayanita Singh and international artists are exhibited in the museum.

Delhi

The National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi is located on the boulevard Rajpath in the formerly known as Jaipur House building, which was once the seat of the Maharajas of Jaipur. The museum was opened in 1954 and expanded with a new wing in 2009. The first director of the gallery was the German art historian Hermann Goetz (1898-1976 ).

Mumbai

The National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai located in the Colaba district. The exhibition was opened in 1996 and contains works by Pablo Picasso, a department of Egyptian art.

Bangalore

The National Gallery of Modern Art in Bangalore is located in the Manikyavelu building on the Palace Road. The exhibition presents about 500 works from different areas, including a large collection of contemporary Indian artist.
