National Heritage Fellowship
The National Heritage Fellowship is an award that is awarded by the U.S. " National Endowment for the Arts " to persons who have rendered outstanding services to the traditional arts. Similar to the Japanese "Living Treasure" award is the " Fellowship " in the USA 's highest honor, which is awarded for services to the folk art or traditional arts, and each of the winners may be granted only once. " Fellows " must be U.S. citizens or at least reside permanently in the United States.
The program began in 1982. Since then, in a ceremony held once a year in the White House in Washington, DC " Fellowships " awarded to between ten and fifteen artists or groups of artists.
Recipients of this award were next to Indian basket weavers, African-American blues musicians, traditional Fiddlespielern, Mexican-American accordion players representatives of all other traditional arts of all ethnic groups.
