National Independence Day

The Polish Independence Day (Polish Narodowe Święto Niepodległości ) is a national holiday in Poland celebrated every year on November 11. The occasion is the regaining of independence of the State in 1918 after 123 years of division by Prussia, Austria -Hungary and Russia.

1937 found the celebrations held for the first time. The date of November 11 has been fixed since that day in 1918 the Second Polish Republic began when Józef Piłsudski by the regency council took over the command of the Polish troops and him shortly after the leadership of the Polish state was transferred.

After the Second World War, the date was postponed to July 22 ( publication of the Manifesto of the Communist Lublin Committee on 22 July 1944 ), 1989 transferred back to the original date.

While thousands Poland Warsaw and other cities of the country largely peaceful celebrate their independence day in the capital, it comes in the last few years, repeated riots in which to deliver nationalists at the rallies violent confrontations with the use of police forces. Especially in Warsaw it comes to violent clashes with arrests in " Independence march " of nationalists and right-wing radicals. On 11 November 2013, riots in front of the Russian Embassy and this was pelted with stones and fireworks. On the following day the Polish Ambassador to Russia Wojciech Zajączkowski was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
