National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (Ukrainian Рада національної безпеки і оборони України, abbreviation RNBO ) is an intergovernmental body of Ukraine.

History

The Council was initially established on 3 July 1992 under the name of National Security. His responsibilities are set out in the Constitution of Ukraine Article 107. The Chairman is the President of Ukraine. The committee shall appoint the Secretary of the RNBO. The Council continues to belong to the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, Interior Minister, the head of the secret SBU and the Minister of Defence of Ukraine. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada is not a member of this committee, but may attend its meetings.

According to the Ukrainian constitution, the task of RNBO is to advise the president of the country in matters relating to internal and external security policy. However, the Council regularly deals with matters that are outside the traditional security and defense policy, such as the inner and energy policy. According to most political observers, the Panel is part of the power structures of the Ukrainian President.
