Ivan Plyushch

Ivan Plyushch (* 1941 in Borsna, Chernihiv Oblast ) is a Ukrainian politician. He was twice president of the Ukrainian parliament and is currently deputy of the faction NU -NS.

Life

After completing his education at the local Agricultural College Plyushch first worked as a laborer and section head in various state and collective farms of Chernihiv Oblast, 1967-1974 as director of agricultural holdings. From 1975 to 1977 he was active in the Communist Party apparatus in the Kiev Oblast.

From 1977 to 1979 studied at the Academy Plyushch of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Social Sciences in Moscow. Then he continued his activities in the party organs of the Kiev Oblast. In 1984 he became first deputy chairman and then chairman of the Oblastverwaltung. In 1990 the Parliament of the Oblast elected him as its president.

In the same year Plyushch was first elected to the Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament of soon after independent Ukraine. From December 1991 to May 1994, and from February 2000 to May 2002 he was President of the Parliament. In 1994 he took part as a candidate in the election of the President of Ukraine and received 1.29 % of votes. He scored the second-worst result of the seven candidates.
