Naval Special Warfare Cold Weather Detachment Kodiak

The Naval Special Warfare Cold Weather Detachment Kodiak ( DET KODIAK ) is both a train of the Naval Special Warfare Center ( NSWC) as well as a naval base for the U.S. Navy near the town of Kodiak on the homonymous island in the U.S. state of Alaska. The base has an area of ​​about 55 acres with dense forests, but the training takes place in the neighboring areas near Long Iceland.

The base was established in 1987 and offers the same climatic conditions as they prevail in parts of North Korea.

Order

The Naval Special Warfare Cold Weather Detachment Kodiak is responsible for winter combat training of U.S. Navy SEALs.

Training company

In the wake of the increasing tensions between the Democratic People's Republic and the United States of the training operation has been strengthened. Meanwhile, through six SEAL training classes, each with 40 man, a 28-day course per year.

The training includes: a survival, orientation and advanced tactical training in forest and coastal regions in wintry, or arctic climate.

The course follows on from the Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL (BUD / S) Selection. A successful completion is a prerequisite for the subsequent transfer to a SEAL Team.
