Navid (satellite)

Navid (Persian نوید also Navid -e - Elm o San'at Persian نوید علم و صنعت ) is an experimental earth observation satellite of the Iranian Space Agency.

The 50- kg nano- satellite was launched on 3 February 2012 by a Safir - B carrier rocket into an orbit of about 375 km altitude. It was developed according to information from the Iranian sites of the Iran University of Science and Technology and to collect weather data and look for possible natural disasters out. The lifetime of the satellite is given as two months. Compared to the Vorläufersateliten Omid and Rasad 1, the satellite has according to statements by the Iranian news agency IRNA on an improved control technology, a camera with higher resolution and better solar cells to generate electricity.
