Iran developed similar North Korea's Taepodong -2 missile the Shahab family.

Rocket launches

On 4 February 2008 Iran successfully launched the suborbital rocket Kavoshgar -1 ( discoverer -1) of its new spaceport. The start shall be transported in a low orbit as an essential step to a first satellite.

On 2 February 2009, the successful launch of a Safir - 2 rocket has been reported, which brought the first self-made satellite Omid into orbit.

On 3 February 2010, Iran announced the launch of the rocket Kawoschgar -3. On board was an experimental capsule with a mouse, a turtle and several worms.

On 15 March 2011 a space capsule with a rocket of the type Kawoschgar -4 was launched from the launch base in Semnan. On the ballistic flight, the rocket reached an altitude of 120 km.

On 15 June 2011, a Safir brought the 15 -kg Earth observation satellite Rasad 1 into an orbit of 260 km altitude.

On 12 October 2011 the Deputy Minister of Science Mohammad Mehdinejad - Nouri announced that a flight of the rocket was Kawoschgar -5 failed with a monkey on board. The capsule was supposed to reach a height of 120 km at a suborbital flight of 20 minutes duration. The timing of the launch was not known precisely, only the month Schahriwar, which lasts from August 23 to September 22.

The third launch a satellite took place on February 3, 2012. A Safir rocket brought the 50kg satellite Navid -e - Elm o Sanat into orbit.

An exact time of the flight was also not mentioned here. Several scientists ( including, for example, Yariv Bash, founder and leader of the Non-Profit Organization Space Israel) cast doubt on the authenticity of the message that the monkey had returned alive. In particular, after the Iranian news agency was forced to concede that the published photos of the monkeys actually showed two different animals.

Space centers

The main launch site of the Iranian Space Agency is Emamshahr from where the suborbital missile Shahab 3 were started. Qom is the second on the grid. Another starting point is in the province of Semnan in construction.

Future Projects

The director of the Iranian Space Agency stated in 2005 that the government would invest to achieve their goals in the space sector in the next five years, a total of $ 500 million.
