Alisher Navoi, with its 117,600 inhabitants ( 1999), is the capital of the province in the southwest of Uzbekistan Alisher Navoi. It is located at an altitude of about 380 meters above sea level. The city of Navoi is cycle-free and also the capital of the eponymous district of Navoi.

Navoi is located about halfway along the railway route Bukhara - Samarkand, shortly after Tinchlik, from where the route joins to Urgench. Navoi has an airport which is next to some passenger flights, mainly for freight traffic between Europe and Asia by Korean Air Cargo important.

History

Originally, the city was known in the time of the Emirate of Bukhara under the name Karmana. In 1958 she was re-established and was given the name of the famous Uzbek poet and politician ʿ Alī Mīr Shir Nawā'ī ( Uzbek Alisher Navoi ), which in Persian and Tschagataisch wrote in the 15th century at the court of the Emir Hussein Boykara in Herat.

Economy

The region has large deposits of natural gas, precious metals and building materials. The company NavoiyAzot is the largest mineral fertilizer producer in Uzbekistan.
