Urgench

Urgench ( Урганч ) ( usbek. )

Urgench ( [ urgæntʃ ], russ Ургенч, Urgench ) is a city in Uzbekistan with 150 120 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005). It lies on the left bank of the Amu Darya River and is the administrative and cultural center of the province of Khorezm ( Xorazm ).

History

The emergence of the city of Urgench goes back to the second half of the 19th century.

Transportation

Since October 20, 1997 consists trolley bus in Urgench.

Points of Interest

From the city, tourist trips are organized for the World Heritage town of Khiva. In the near Urgench are former Narimanow - Baumwollkolchos, as well as the ancient fortresses Toprak - kala and Koj - Krylgan -Kala in the Kyzyl Kum, and Köneürgenç ("old Ürgenç " ) in neighboring Turkmenistan. Noteworthy is also the fauna and flora of the Karakum.
