Ned Glass

Ned Glass ( born April 1, 1906 in Poland, † June 15, 1984 in Encino, California ) was an American character actor, the theatrical and television films starred in more than 80. He usually played nervous, cowardly or indecisive characters. Small and bald, with a slight hump, he had his special appearance, his nasal voice and his pronounced New York City accent a high recognition value.

Life

Ned Glass was born in Poland, moved at a young age in the United States and grew up in New York City, where he attended the City College. Glass came over the Vaudeville to Broadway, where he first appeared in 1931 in the play Counsellor -at-Law by Elmer Rice. After six years on Broadway in 1936, he signed a contract with MGM. His first film appearance was a role in True Confession 1937. In 1952 he made ​​his breakthrough with the film The Bad and the Beautiful. He was later placed on the blacklist in Hollywood (see also Hollywood Ten). During this time he worked as a carpenter. Its heyday was the 1960s, where he made ​​films starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. Among his best known films of this period include West Side Story from 1961 and Charade, which was created in 1963.
