Ned Tanen

Ned Stone Tanen ( born September 30, 1931 in Los Angeles, California, † January 5, 2009 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American film producer.

Life

Ned Tanen studied at the University of California in 1954 and got a job at MCA. In 1967 he was involved in the founding of the label Uni Records, which after the merger with Decca Records finally became MCA Records. In 1976 he was appointed head of Universal Pictures, a subsidiary of MCA. After hits like Animal House and Blues Brothers, he left Universal in 1982 and founded the production company Channel Productions, with which he St. Elmo 's Fire produced, among others, the feature film.

In 1984 he became head of the film division of Paramount Pictures. He was responsible for productions such as Crocodile Dundee and Top Gun, the studio generated in the year 1986 600 million U.S. dollars, which was a record at that time. In 1988 he left Paramount. He produced in the 1990s, a few films, including Tess and her bodyguard 1994.
