Nesoryzomys darwini

The Darwin rice rat ( Nesoryzomys darwini ) is an extinct rodent -like mice from the kind of Galápagos rice rats ( Nesoryzomys ).

Description

The Darwin rice rat reached a length of 222 mm. The tail length was 89 mm and the 27 mm Hinterfußlänge. The top was gray-brown, yellow-brown colored the bottom.

Dissemination and lifestyle

The Darwin rice rat was endemic to the island of Santa Cruz in the Galapagos Archipelago. She was probably active at night and stayed at daytime in caves or crevices.

Extinction

1906, the first two copies in Academy Bay were collected in 1929 four more in Academy Bay and Conway Bay. 1930, no recent evidence of Art in the late 1930s, the black rat was introduced; probably the Darwin rice rat died out by the house rat entrained pathogens or by direct competition with this type. More Aussterbeursachen could have been the later also naturalized brown rats and predation by feral cats.
