Nestor Assogba

Nestor Assogba ( born February 21, 1929 in Abomey ) is Archbishop Emeritus of Cotonou.

Life

Nestor Assogba received on 21 December 1957, the ordination. Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 10 April 1976 for the Bishop of Parakou.

The Vice President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Cardinal Bernardin Gantin donated him on July 25th of that year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Lucien Monsi - Agboka, Bishop of Abomey and Guy- Marie -Joseph Riobé, Bishop of Orléans.

With the elevation of the bishopric to an archbishopric on 16 October 1997 he was appointed the first Archbishop of Parakou. On 29 October 1999 he was appointed Archbishop of Cotonou. On March 5, 2005, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
