Newe Shalom and / or Wahat al -Salam (Hebrew נווה שלום, Arabic واحة السلام, DMG Wahat as- Salām, dt " oasis of peace"; transliteration in English as Neve Shalom ) is founded in 1970 by Bruno Hussar peace Village on the highway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, near Latrun.
The village is inhabited by Jewish and Arab Israelis. " You sit down together for equality and understanding between the two peoples one. " In 2001, there were about 40 families.
The name is derived from Isaiah 32.18: My people shall dwell in a place of peace, and in sure dwellings, and quiet resting places.
1979, a bilingual primary school was founded with kindergarten and middle school, the first in the country. There are now a total of four such schools in Israel. It gives children from the village and the surrounding area to both cultures and their appreciation. The " School of Peace ", a national training center, leads Arab and Jewish youth and adults from Israel and other countries in seminars and courses together to dialog and understanding.
