Newcastle Jets FC W-League

The Newcastle United Jets Women are an Australian professional women's football team and play in the top league in the country, the W-League. The team was founded in 2008 and is part of the football club Newcastle United Jets FC, the professional men's team plays in the A-League.

History

2008/ 09 - Foundation and first season

In 2008, the Australian football federation ( FFA) founded with the W-League, the first women's football league in the country. In the same year the Newcastle United Jets FC announced the establishment of an autonomous women's teams. The team was at the start of the 2008/ 09 one of the eight founding members of the new league. First coach of the team was former Australian professional football player Gary Phillips. The team obtained the second place in the table at the end of the season. As one of the top four teams, the women moved into the W-League play-offs. In the semifinals, the team lost 1-0 against Canberra United FC.

2009 and 2010 /11 - Second and third season

After a good first season in the league success was in the next two seasons. Under the new Irish football coach Wayne O'Sullivan Newcastle United Jets Women could not win a single game in the 2009 season and were Table. In the following season, 2010/11 also was only a disappointing penultimate place to be earned.

2011/12 - Fourth Season

The former coach Wayne O'Sullivan by the former Australian international footballer Clayton Zane was replaced before the 2011/12 season. In addition, the club engaged the former German international Ariane Hingst for one season. Despite the gain, the team missed fifthly the table a place in the play-offs.

2012/13 - Fifth Season

In the season 2012/13, again took over as coach Wayne O'Sullivan. In the course of the season, the team succeeded only one win in twelve games. The season ended on the penultimate seventh place.

2013/14 - Sixth Season

Before the start of the current season 2013/14 Peter McGuinness was engaged as the new coach. The season ended disappointingly on the bottom of the table.
