NGC 4603

NGC 4603 is a galaxy in the constellation Centaurus and is 108 million light-years away from Earth. NGC 4603 is a member of the cluster centaur with hundreds of galaxies. The local group, which also includes our Milky Way belongs to this cluster of galaxies approaching at a speed of approximately 1.5 million kilometers per hour, attracted by its gravity.

Besides NGC 4603, there are in the same region of the sky four other galaxies with similar names: NGC 4603A, NGC 4603B, NGC 4603C and NGC 4603D.

The galaxy NGC 4603 was discovered on 8 June 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel.
