NGC 6791

NGC 6791 is an open cluster in the constellation Lyra, which is about 13,300 light -years away from Earth. The cluster has an age of about 8 billion years. Recent studies with the Hubble Space Telescope can, however, recognize two more generations of stars, which are about 4 and 6 billion years old.

The open cluster NGC 6791 was discovered in December 1853 by the German astronomer Friedrich August Theodor Winnecke.
