Nianimaru Forest Park

The Nianimaru Forest Park ( spelling variant: Niani Maru Forest Park ) is a forest in the West African nation of Gambia.

Topography

The 607 -hectare forest area situated in the Central River Region in the district Nianija and was, like the other Forest Park in The Gambia, to January 1, 1954 set up. The Nianimaru Forest Park is located approximately nine miles northwest of the places Wassu and Kuntaur in a straight line, ten kilometers located in the west of Kahi Badi Forest Park.

The approximately 3.8 long and 1.8 kilometers wide area bounded by the right the north bank of the Gambia River. In the immediate vicinity, in a southeasterly direction, the Inland Bird Island Iceland is located in the river.

The Nianimaru Forest Park is located in a region in which the many Senegambian stone circles can be found, among others, the stone circles of Niani Maru.

History

In the 15th century entertained the Portuguese, the first Europeans who were in the history of the Gambia on Gambia River, numerous bases. Among other things, they had a trading station name Nyani Maru, the forest area has its name originating from this place.
