Nicholas, Crown Prince of Montenegro

Nikola Petrović Njegoš Michael Francis, Serbian: Никола Петровић - Његош, (* July 7, 1944 in Saint -Nicolas- du- Pélem, Côtes- d'Armor, Brittany ) is the heir apparent to the throne of Montenegro. He is since 1986 the head of the Petrović - Njegoš dynasty. The traditionalists and monarchists see him as "His Royal Highness Titularer King Nikola II of Montenegro ".

Life

Nikola is the only son and heir of titular King Michael (I.), Duke of Grahova and Zeta ( 1908-1986 ) and his French wife Geneviève Prigent ( 1919-1991 ). After eight years of marriage, his parents divorced in August 1949 in Paris. He is a great-grandson of the last king of Montenegro, Nikola I Petrović Njegoš (1841-1921) by his father.

In 1964, Nikola studied architecture at the Académie des Beaux -Arts in Paris. Between 1965 and 1967 he worked as an intern in various architectural firms; organized and supervised various construction projects. In the years 1967 to 1971, he was involved in the planning of the winter sports venue in Avoriaz. In 1971 he received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) and was inducted into the Société Française des Architectes. On November 27, 1976 Nikola married in Trébeurden, Côtes -du -Nord, the lawyer Francine Navarro (* January 27, 1950; † 6 August 2008). From the joint connecting two children, went Altinaï (born 27 October 1977) and Boris (born 21 January 1980), produced. The family lives in Les Lilas.

In the 1980s, he was co-founder of the National Museum of Montenegro in Cetinje Cetinje and President of the Biennale of contemporary art. This Biennale, which opened a few days before the collapse of Yugoslavia for the first time in 1991, has developed into one of the major international art events in the Balkans and is opening up the region, not only in the current art scene.

In 2011, Nikola II returned at the invitation of the Montenegrin government to Montenegro, where he is to assume representative functions in the future.

On July 18, 2012 to it were presented citizenship certificates to his children and grandchildren Nicholas and Milena from the Montenegrin Interior Minister Ivan Brajović in Podgorica. This was done in accordance with a 2011 adopted law, which governs the rights of the descendants of the former royal family. The prince was fitted due to an Act of Parliament with a small appanage.
