Nicholas Sprenger

Nicholas Sprenger (born 14 May 1985 in Brisbane, Queensland) is an Australian swimmer, he is specialized in middle distance freestyle.

Earlier in his career coached Sprenger in a training group with Ian Thorpe and Grant Hackett. After he had finished third on 200 m freestyle at the Australian Championships in 2003, he was nominated for the Australian national team for the 2003 World Cup. There he competed in the 4x200 -meter freestyle relay that won the gold medal.

A year later at the Olympic Games in Athens he won, together with Thorpe, Hackett and Michael Klim, silver in the 4x200 m freestyle relay.

In the same year he had a minor car accident, which interfered with his preparation for the World Cup. In 2006 Sprenger was unable to attend national and international championships because of a stubborn virus.
