Nick Venet

Nick Venet (real name Nikolas Kostantinos Venetoulis, * December 3, 1936; † 2 January 1998) was an American record producer and composer. Best known it was the fact that he took the American band The Beach Boys on Capitol Records and produced their first two albums.

Life and work

Venet began his career at the age of 19 years at World Pacific / Pacific Jazz Records. There he found in Lee Gillette, John Hammond, and Richard Bach mentors. He used this time in his friend's name Derry Weaver, he stated for his compositions as author.

In 1958 he finally moved to Capitol Records, where he initially worked as a producer, and later he was promoted to head of A & R department. Venet was known that he "... Produced by " knew his every single with the naming of what was eventually taken over for Capitol and later with other record companies. In addition, he also listed the names of most studio musicians who played along on the plates, which was unusual at the time. At Capitol he first produced several jazz albums, including one with Ray Anthony and first rock & roll singles that did not sell very well. In 1962, he finally took the group The Lettermen for Capitol Records. A few months later he was finally aware of the Beach Boys and equipped it with a long-term contract. Venet and the Beach Boys wanted to produce, this project had, however, after two albums already back up. From there, he focused on his role as A & R manager and worked as a freelance producer.

Over the next few years he also served Nat King Cole, Glen Campbell and many other artists. Later in his career he founded the Capitol 's vice-president Alan W. Livingston Media Arts where he produced, among others, Don McLean. In the 1990s, he produced the CD version of the Broadway musical Salvation and 1997, the musical The Last Session. The Last Session was actually the last shot for Nick Venet, who died on January 2, 1998 to cancer.
