Nicola Zingaretti

Nicola Zingaretti ( born October 11, 1965 in Rome ) is an Italian politician. He was from 2004 to 2008 Member of the European Parliament.

Zingaretti moved into the European Parliament for the Uniti nell'Ulivo list, which is part of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats ) and European Democrats. Before his retirement he was a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament. On 30 April 2008, he became president of the province of Rome.

Zingaretti 2012 was nominated by his party as a candidate for the mayoral election in Rome in 2013. However, after the Regional Parliament was dissolved for corruption scandals, instead he was the top candidate in the region of Lazio. In the early regional elections on 24 and 25 February 2013, was elected to succeed Renata Polverini as President of the Region. He won 40.65 % of the vote, his strongest competitor, the neo-fascist politician Francesco Storace, 29.71 %.

He is the brother of actor Luca Zingaretti.
